The Pastor Writes . . .
I have been reading a very interesting little book
entitled, Jesus, CEO Using Ancient
Wisdom for Visionary Leadership by Laurie Beth Jones.
One afternoon while at one of my favorite stores, Barnes
& Noble, I left the usual Christian inspiration section and wandered into
marketing. Now business has never been a topic that speaks to my soul, but I
had a “nudge” (and if you have attended worship with us, you know by now that I
always listen to those nudges as Holy Spirit moments). Anyways, just as my eyes
were beginning to glaze over from the mundane attempts at clever titles for
business salesmanship and promotion, I spotted the above book title. I cringed.
The title seemed like just another secular sales job.
I put down my latte and began to thumb through the book,
after all, I am one to follow those nudges. It began to get my attention and
before I knew it, I was standing there reading it. I purchased it and have been
turning back to it during spare moments.
Perhaps you would like to
join me in reading this book, pondering the questions at the end of each
chapter and sharing your ideas.
The author begins in much the same way Jesus began his
ministry—in the wilderness. Now while not too many of us will wander off into
the desert any time soon, we all have experienced the wilderness of failure.
Those times when we have made mistakes that we remember maybe even more than
our successes. Rather than regret or fear our mistakes, Jones invites us to
enter into them as the life lessons they are; to see our mistakes as ways to
help us see our gifts more clearly.
When we see our gifts, we see who we are. When we use our
gifts, we understand more fully, whose we are.
Tell me what you think…
Peace,
Pastor Faith
